We are all actors at heart. In our daily we learn ‘perform’ our role to the best of our capabilities - or at least try to. The major obstacles that get in the way is the skills we lack that prevent us working to our potential – confidence, shyness, presentation skills, vocal skills, clear and positive body language. Theatre training has a wonderful way to help you overcome these problems in a positive, exciting and rewarding way.
For too long the training for young and older people has been less than excellent. There are a few exceptions to this but in the main significant amounts of money are being spent on experiences that are lacking in fairness, rigour, professional practice and experience. With TEATRO theatre school you will be taught by professional practitioners who have worked at the RSC, the West End, Broadway, the Moulin Rouge and the National Youth Theatre, who are steeped in the techniques that make performing vibrant, exciting, memorable and life-changing. Teatro have also combined the above with many years of teaching practice at colleges and universities and their rigour reflects the demands made by the inspection bodies dedicated to raising standards.

TEATRO Beginners will find our relaxed way of working a really easy way to engage with the theatre process. Through a range of theatre games and exercises you will grow in confidence, become more flexible and able to think and react more spontaneously. As the classes develop you will engage with script work which will give you an insight into how playwrights have dealt with the human condition – this is a fascinating way to put into practice some of the earlier formative work as you explore characterisation, focus, objective, status, all transferable to situations in the workplace or daily life. There will be opportunities to perform throughout the process with one major performance at the end of the year.
TEATRO² More advanced classes are held for those who feel that they understand the above processes or have done training before. These run at a faster pace and go into greater detail using Stanislavski and Brechtian techniques together with devising, physical theatre, Viewpoints, Forum Theatre and devising in order to enhance their skill base.
An important part of the training that we do is to spend a significant part of it on singing and singing techniques. We all sing! Some sing better than others but the valuable role that it plays in helping with breathing, articulation, interpretation and stage presence cannot be underestimated. You will be working on a number of interesting and exciting numbers from musical theatre to modern classics enabling you to build confidence and the ability to 'put over' a song.
These classes embrace the above but combine the added disciplines of singing and movement/choreography. There has been a real explosion in musical theatre in recent years with the popularity of shows such as Les Miserables and Wicked. To really get the most from this wonderful genre then it is essential that you understand character and how to convey that through song. You will be working on a variety of songs over the sessions in order to develop a strong bond between the lyrics/tune and its interpretation. As skills grow and develop we will be presenting significant musical theatre extracts leading, eventually, to a full production.
For those who want to take the work we do further or those who are looking for high quality professional work on audition pieces for Drama School then Teatro has all the expertise to get you that elusive place. Alan, our Principal has a long standing reputation for getting students into university and drama school and has many successful actors having already graduated from RADA, LAMDA, Rose Bruford, Central School, Mountview Conservatoire, De Montfort University, Warwick University, University of Middlesex etc.
The key to most auditions is the preparation, including the right speeches and an understanding of what the interview/audition panel are looking for. As a professional actor he has sat on many audition panels and seen the mistakes made by many aspiring young actors from not knowing their speeches well enough, to lacking in confidence or too over confident and arrogant about their future in the business.
In a short amount of time we can transform your chances from 50/50 to almost one hundred per cent - that is always assuming that you have the talent!
Every business understands that good training is worth its weight in gold and supports a bond between the company and its staff. To be effective, training has to be meaningful and relevant to its workforce whether you are handling change or introducing new practices. Strong, effective, clear communicators, who can perform with skill and confidence under pressure, are a great asset to an employer and Teatro can help in building those skills.
Using tried and tested techniques based on our years as theatre practitioners, performers and facilitators we try to unlock the potential inside all of us. We specialise in hands on practical sessions that focus on shared experiences that are fun, interactive and above all relevant to the workplace. Our work is supported by up to date learning models and the latest methodology.
In this post-recession climate dealing with the difficult role of making people redundant can be a stressful and harrowing experience. Responsible employers need to provide a package for their employees over and above the offer of money. Psychologists liken the trauma that occurs when people are made redundant to bereavement.
Teatro can offer a package that will ease the transition and provide a positive, hopeful and creative way to manage change from presentation and interview techniques to effective thinking and proactive interview skills.
